We sometimes do things automatically, especially first thing in the morning. I know I’m not the only person who occasionally thinks to myself “Did I lock the door?” when leaving the house in the morning. I have but it doesn’t stop me from turning around and making sure.
I did once catch myself leaving the cooker on, which made me more paranoid for a couple of weeks afterwards. Generally, though, I’ve already done it without thinking. It can be embarrassing as I found out a little while back.
I had decided to get my hair cut one Saturday morning. Normally, I stop off on my way into town before it gets busy, which I did. I got my normal four around the back and side and tidy up on top (I’m getting a bit thin on top so I generally have it a little longer). I then went into town to do what I needed to.
On my way home, I noticed that the barbers was empty and somehow forgetting that I had my hair cut half an hour earlier jumped in and bounced into the chair. The barber looked at me strangely, and asked if everything was okay. It was then that I looked in the mirror and realised my mistake.
The good news that he only charged me half price for the second visit.
What little defence that I had, was that my mind was somewhere else that morning. I was distracted, but was still very funny that I had no idea what I was doing. I think that I went to the barbers the first time on auto pilot, whilst my mind was on it’s own little planet doing what needed doing.
Have I mentioned before that I can sometimes be an eejit?
